Hello all! Today, I am beginning a new video series devoted to hybrid rudiments. There are hundreds of hybrid rudiments, and they are a vital part of modern rudimental drumming. I aim to provide a video reference for the hybrids previously covered in the Hybrid Rudiments section of this site. The series kicks off with Hertas over at the Drummin’ Around channel @drumminaround. New videos will be added regularly over the next several weeks and can be seen in the Hybrid Rudiments Playlist as they become available for viewing. Enjoy, and happy drumming!
2024 was a busy time here. Seventy-five videos were added to the YouTube channel @drumminaround, which brings the total to 180 videos! And the number is growing weekly. Thirty-eight resources were added to the website. Drummin’ Around now offers 137 free downloadable resources, with more on the way. You’ll see those added throughout the year.
And I’m not slowing down in 2025. I aim to continue to grow this site, adding at least two new resources each month and 1 to 2 new videos a week over at @drumminaround. It continues to be my hope that what you find here will be of benefit whether you’re a student (beginner or advanced) or an educator. My focus on rudimental literacy and applying rudiments in practice and performance is the driving force behind Drummin’ Around.
I’m excited for the year ahead, and as always, happy drumming!
The 1897 manual “Instructions for the Trumpet and Drum” by F. H. Greissinger and edited by W. F. Smith, has been added to the growing collection available on the Historical Documents page. This manual contains the signals and calls as used by the United States Army and Navy. Instructions specific to the drum can be found beginning on page 59.
